My fiancé and I have been regular customers at Boxcar for a long time, and every experience has been outstanding with our pastries and coffee. We have tried a large majority of their items and everything is delicious, you simply cannot go wrong. The owners and staff provide excellent customer service and greet us with warm welcomes every visit. The only suggestion we would propose is that on the weekends (busiest times) to not allow computers or parking out at the very limited amount of tables to allow more customers to sit down and enjoy their breakfast. We would also love to see a rewards program started for us frequent visitors!
This place has absolutely divine baked goods. If we're being candid, the coffee drinks might be a 4 out of 5 as some of them are a little milder than I prefer, but it is so well worth it to stop in. I've loved everything I've eaten!
My goodness this place is phenomenal. Love the vibe, the aesthetic, the staff. I venture to Boxcar Bakery every Sunday for “pastry Sunday” and it is the highlight of my week. The scones are mind blowing, fluffy with a crisp outer edge. Strawberry basil scone is my current fav.
Boxcar has made my birthday cake for the past three years and it’s truly the best. Not overly sweet, great taste and unique flavors. I have also tried their sweets and they’re amazing, I especially love the almond croissant!
My first visit was EXCELLENT!! The Corn Chowder with Bacon, served with their house bread was amazing. Jess's ginger cookie was fantastic!! 😋 👌 😍
We purchased 2 birthday cakes one of which we had ordered before (carrot cake). The carrot cake was awesome though I did miss the little flower that was on it last time. Less crystal sugar in the middle of the cake and that was ok. The chocolate peanut butter cake was AMAZING also! You have very talented bakers. Please give them my THANKS!

After hearing countless recommendations from friends and neighbors, we finally decided it was time to see what all the buzz was about — and we’re so glad we did! From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted by the cheerful staff at the front counter. Their friendly energy instantly made the place feel welcoming, and the service was both quick and efficient. Despite it being early in the day, the bakery was already lively with the comforting aroma of freshly baked pastries and coffee brewing in the background. The pastry display was absolutely stunning — rows upon rows of perfectly golden, flaky, and artfully arranged treats. The variety was almost overwhelming (in the best way possible!), and we simply couldn’t decide on just one or two. In the end, we picked out six different pastries to share as a family, and every single one was delicious in its own way. Each bite felt thoughtfully made, with just the right balance of texture and flavor. The croissants, in particular, were outstanding — beautifully layered, buttery, and crisp on the outside while remaining soft and airy inside. My personal favorite was the Maple Pecan Roll, which was rich, nutty, and had just the right touch of sweetness. Our youngest declared the Boston Cream Croissant his favorite, saying he could easily eat ten of them — and honestly, I believe him! The coffee was excellent as well — smooth, aromatic, and the perfect complement to the pastries. The drink options were impressive, with something for everyone. The only small critique I have is the additional $0.75 charge for milk alternatives. Since non-dairy options like oat or almond milk are now quite comparable in price to regular milk, it might be nice to consider including them at the same base cost. Of course, it’s a minor suggestion, but it would be a thoughtful touch for those who prefer alternatives. What really makes
Boxcar Bakery is such a cute bakery and coffee shop with an amazing pastry selection. They have staple items along with rotating pastry choices, so there’s always something new to try. Everything tastes and looks like it’s baked from scratch in house. They also have nice window seats that make it a great spot to sit, study, or just relax for a while.
I think Boxcar Bakery may be one of the loveliest places in VT. The pastries are made with such detail and pride, and are also so creative and delicious. The place is also very cute, clean, and airy. The service is solid, and they always remember my name. It’s the perfect spot to study, have coffee with a friend, or enjoy a quaint little treat-yourself moment. I also love that they are open until 5 pm most days. I’ve noticed people drive from far away just to come here. Also, on the weekends, they have cinnamon buns!
Hands down one of the best bakeries I’ve come across, and honestly one of the last places I expected to find it — tucked away here in Vermont. Boxcar Bakery is a genuine surprise and a total standout. Fair warning: their famous orange cardamom bun sells out fast. We arrived around 10am and they were already gone — lesson learned for next time. But don’t let that discourage you, because everything else we tried was absolutely on point. The pastries were fresh, well-crafted, and delivered on every level. What really impressed us beyond the baked goods were the sandwiches — incredibly flavorful and clean, the kind you don’t forget. For a coffee shop, the menu is impressively expansive, covering breakfast, lunch, pastries, and a solid drinks lineup all under one roof. There were plenty of people hanging out, and a steady stream of customers coming through the door the whole time we were there. It has that rare quality of feeling both effortlessly cool and genuinely community-rooted. Already planning my next visit — and this time I’m getting there early enough for that cardamom bun.
